Rotary in BLENHEIM
What do we get up to in Rotary Blenheim South?
Community HELPCreative Kids.
We've partnered with this wonderful local charity for a few years now, who provide music therapy to the children of Seddon and Ward traumatised by the Kaikoura Earthquake. With additional help from other parts of Rotary, we have raised nearly $40,000 to cover the costs of this highly successful programme. Music Therapy has shown positive outcomes for all of the children and youth that they have worked with across their developmental and mental health needs. Youth Development. We're proud to support youth initiatives including the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Rotary Youth Driver Awareness programme, Graeme Dingle Foundation, Marlborough First Light Foundation & Outward Bound and the Rotary Summer Science School. Daffodil Day. A favourite activity among club members is picking thousands of daffodils for this annual event in support the Cancer Society's work. Rotoiti Lodge Upgrade. From 2019 - 2021 we were hard at work, assisting in a hands-on project with other te tau ihu Rotary clubs to improve this amazing facility. We also helped set up a fund to ensure all local school kids can be involved in the camps and outdoor education activities. |
GLOBAL HELPAid in the Pacific.
We've been providing Emergency Response Kits and Shelter Boxes to cyclone ravaged Pacific islands for years. Aid In Cambodia. Rotary Blenheim South has helped a club member in his work in Cambodia and Laos to provide medical care for CCPCR and MEC programmes. Aid in Nepal. Spearheaded by a club member, we continue to deepen our relationship and raise funds to support a number of projects in a village in the Solu Khumbu, Nepal. Support for these initiatives has come not only from the club and elsewhere in Rotary but also from individual members and their friends. As a result, 53 fireplaces have been installed in local family homes; polycarbonate windows have been installed in the school and hall plus solar lighting; and a contribution to a concrete floor in their village flour mill. We also helped out with aid to help the community during the COVID-19 tourism downturn. Polio. We're proud to contribute every year to Rotary International's massive global project to put an end to this crippling disease. |
Support for the Awatere Early Childhood Education Hub Development.
This project followed on from the Club’s initial support for the children and families of the East Coast, Flaxbourne, Ward and Seddon area after the Kaikoura earthquake. Plans were made to develop a permanent and improved facility for pre-school children which at that time was being run at the old Anglican Church.
Many of our club members were involved in organising a fund raising evening at the ASB theatre, after which the club donated $10,000 and arranged that a further $8,000 grant from the Rotary District earthquake relief fund. Other assistance has been provided in the administration and organising of the build.
Early in 2022 we were proud to see this facility opened for the benefit of the community.

Other activities.
Some of what we do we're a bit coy about. Nothing weird or dodgy, but just charitable stuff where recipients are genuinely needy, but may not want to publicise that.
We serve our community in many ways, including involvement with local schools, improving local amenities, supporting projects of volunteer organisations with both manpower and funding, and many others.

Creative fundraising for projects that draw communities together is a key aspect of what we do.
