Improving  Safe  Drinking  Water  Supply  at 
​Takuilau  College  in  Tonga

​Rotary Blenheim South are proud to be helping our neighbours in Tonga with this important project to establish a safe reliable water supply for Takuilau College. 

This project has been set up and led by Rotary Blenheim South, with help from a few other Rotary Clubs in Aotearoa.  

Our emphasis at the moment is fundraising to meet the costs of installing 10 x 10,000 litre water tanks along with associated plumbing and related work.

Takuilau College is a secondary school with 549 students and 39 teachers and staff.
Kokatahi Band
The school's current water infrastructure is no longer sufficient for a growing school community and increasing climate variability.
The situation now:
  • Limited drinking water storage
  • Water shortages during dry periods
  • Limited resilience
  • Operational uncertainty

Providing the school with reliable, safe drinking water is fundamental to:
  • Student health and wellbeing
  • Effective learning
  • School attendance
  • Hygiene and child protection
  • Climate resilience

After this project:
  • 115,000 litre water storage and connecting infrastructure
  • Reliable year-round supply
  • Climate-resilient system
  • A secured water future

The project will:
  • Improve student health
  • Strengthen learning outcomes
  • Reduce operational risks
  • Enhance school resilience
  • Promote water stewardship
  • Support environmental sustainability

  • 10 × 10,000-litre drinking water tanks
